Dr. McCoy’s October Newsletter
Students in Room 21 are nearing the end of our read-aloud, The Indian in the Cupboard, and we have enjoyed the adventures of Omri, Patrick, Boone, and Little Bear. We hope to see lots of folks at the Brooke Fall Fun Fair this Friday, Oct 3rd. Other news from Room 21:
Language Arts: We are concluding our first Unit, “Seeing is Believing: Focus on Family” and will soon be starting Unit 2, “A Wider View: The Plants and Animals Around Us”. We have also been focusing on the writing process, author’s purpose, and character traits found in stories. We are beginning work on our first Book Report and students did a great job of selecting their own books for “free choice”. Our Spelling test grades have been super!
Math: We are finishing Unit 2 and we’ll soon be testing. We have been studying addition, subtraction, median and mode. Our next Unit will cover multiplication, division, and the relationship between the two. We’ll be making our own “Fact Triangles”.
Science: We recently took our Unit test “Using Weather Data”. We did experiments with condensation and monitored the local weather forecasts. We are now beginning our next Unit- “The Universe”.
Technology: Students are exploring the various Math and Language Arts lessons in our Odyssey program.
Pro-Social: We recently attended an assembly about how to be a “Bucket-Filler”- all about treating others as we would like to be treated. Room 21 is looking forward to filling our bucket every day with positive thoughts and actions!
