3. PRESIDENT’S REPORT by Tracie Hackett:
- On November 13,
we received Suzanne Mosebrook’s resignation as President of the Brooke
Home & School. A motion was
made by Kim McLaughlin to accept Suzanne’s resignation. It was seconded by Joyclyn Faust.
- It was proposed
that the President position be changed to co-Presidents, in accordance
with the by-laws adopted on September 10, 2007. Tracie Hackett will complete her term as
co-President and Liz Brull will fill the other co-President position,
continuing until June 2009. Karen Pizzuta
has agreed to fill the Secretary position through the end of the school
year, and hopefully, the balance of Liz’s term which ends in June
2009. A motion was made by Janet
Mellon and seconded by Janice Johnson to accept the new officers.
- The Home &
School closet has been cleaned. If cups
are needed for upcoming events, there are several boxes in the H&S
closet.
- The need for a Spring
fundraiser was discussed. Right now
we don’t need additional funds, but we could sell Wawa hoagie
vouchers. We make
$.75/voucher. Liz Brull volunteered
to coordinate this, if we want to pursue.
Dr. Mackel also mentioned possibly selling Joe Corbi Pizza. Also, what about a basket raffle? It was decided to hold off on this until
next year and see if it is needed at that time.
- The possibility
of a Spring Spiritwear sale was mentioned.
Marlo Oslon volunteered to coordinate this. It was requested that she look at
t-shirts, shorts, beach towels, beach bags and tie-dye shirts. Several people would also like more
adult sizes available.
- Last week the
teachers were given a “wish list” request.
Since we have a surplus of funds, we have asked them for their
thoughts on items which they would like.
The deadline for submission is 2/1, after which the Board will
review the submissions and bring them to the general membership at the
February meeting. In the future,
this may be made a budget item.
- The old popcorn
machine was discarded. It was
rusted and was costly to repair. We
can rent one for $100/night for Family Nights, or can buy one for
$300-500. The old one lasted
several years. A motion was made by
Janice Johnson to spend up to $500 on a new popcorn machine. This motion was seconded by Sue Jucker
and passed.
- Dr. Mackel was
asked if there is somewhere to store a coat rack if H&S purchases
one. There is no room other than
the H&S closet, so we won’t be purchasing a coat rack at this time.
- Holiday
Happenings was a huge success. A
very big thank you to Christine Mentzer for chairing this event and to all
the volunteers who helped.
- The Holiday
Spiritwear order was received prior to Winter Break. Thanks to Suzanne Mosebrook for handling
this.
- We still need a
Beautification chairperson. Have 12
people helping with this committee, but would like a chair to organize
activities. Kim McLaughlin
volunteered to take care of the lobby plants until we can find a chair for
this committee.
- We need a chair
for the Hospitality Committee. There’s
only one more event – Kindergarten Registration. Stephanie Macaluso volunteered to chair
this committee.
- We would like to
form a new committee to handle the mailing of cards/gifts to teachers and
staff for major life events. Will
work closely with Barbara Halphen and Barbara Dilks in getting the names
of teachers/staff so cards may be sent.
Janet Mellon volunteered to chair this committee.
- The
Co-Presidents will be appointing a Nominating Committee. Need to fill the Treasurer and one of
the Co-President seats. Also,
perhaps secretary, but we’re hoping that Karen Pizzuta accepts the
position through June 2009. If you
are thinking about running for one of the open positions, please do not accept
an appointment to the Nominating Committee.
- We now have
forms for committee chairs and event planners to complete so that the
incoming chairperson has an idea of how previous events/activities were
run. These will be distributed at a
later date.
- SNAP Beef &
Beverage being held on Friday, 2/1, from 7:00 to 11:00 p.m. at Friendship
Fire Co. Proceeds fund the
post-prom party. Tickets are
$25/person and can be purchased from Tracie Hackett or Janice
Johnson. Appetites Delights is
catering and there are a lot of silent auction items. There will also be a DJ and
dancing. This is a great
organization to support because our kids will be at the high school before
we know it.
- The Brain Show
is scheduled for Friday, 3/28.
Treasure Hunt Day is Saturday, 4/5.
4. SECRETARY’S
REPORT by Liz Brull: Approval of the
November meeting minutes was motioned by Kim McLaughlin and seconded by Sue
Jucker.
5. TREASURER’S REPORT by Liz Brull for Pam
Ciresi:
- Copies of the
Treasurer’s Report were available during the meeting. The account balances as of 1/09/08 are:
Commerce Checking $14,953.25
Commerce Savings $27,793.85
Total $42,747.10
- Our liability
account stands at - $7,428.93.
- The breakdown
for Holiday Happenings was also reviewed.
- A motion to accept
and approve the budget was made by Joyclyn Faust and seconded by Janice
Johnson.
6. COMMITTEE REPORTS:
§ Box Tops and eScrip – Gina Ciocco-Schmitt
The next box top
deadline is 2/28. We discussed the
possibility of having a contest with the classroom in each grade which collects
the most box tops winning an ice cream party.
Target start date for this contest is 2/5, the 100th day of
school.
§ Market Day – Kim McLaughlin, Marlo Oslon & Stephanie
Macaluso
Kim reported that we
raised $1,331.14 in November and $1,190.95 in December. Stephanie Macaluso is now coordinating
volunteers. In January all orders placed
on the Market Day website are entered into a Disney giveaway drawing. Orders sent into school are not entered into
this; only on-line orders. Also, there
will be no March sale due to Spring Break.
If you need items for Easter, they should be ordered in either January
or February. We will have two sales in
April; one the very beginning of the month and one at the end.
§ Yearbook – Janice Johnson
Flyers will be going
out in a few weeks to pre-order the yearbook.
The cost is $15 without Zoom and $16 with Zoom. There will be a color spread in the middle of
the book. Janice is still accepting
pictures. Please e-mail Brooke pictures to
her at jmt.johnson@verizon.net.
7. TEACHER’S REPORT:
§ Thanks to all who
supplied appetizers and desserts last week for lunch.
§ The Brain Show will
be Friday, 3/28. We will have two assemblies
during the day, plus a Family Night.
This is a quiz show where the kids answer curriculum-based
questions. It’s very high energy. Do we want to charge a minimal fee for this
Family Night to offset the cost of the assembly?
8. ADJOURNMENT:
The meeting was adjourned at 7:49 p.m. on a motion by Joyclyn
Faust and seconded by Karen Pizzuta.
