The nurse can be found
in the Health Suite located just past the school office. If
you are called by the nurse to pickup your child from school because
of illness or injury, please enter the school office and sign your
child out. Then proceed to the Health Suite.
Please refer to the
Elementary School Handbook for detailed policies on Health Services.
An excerpt from that policy states: If a
child is sick in the morning, he/she should not be sent to school.
An elevation of temperature is a positive indicator of the beginning
of a cold or possibly some contagious disease. One of the reasons
for the spread of childhood diseases through the lower grades is
because the children are not isolated during the early stages of the
disease and sometimes not even when the rash appears. If your child
is sick, please keep him/her home. We will not treat illnesses
and/or injuries that occurred in the home. This is the
responsibility of the home and not of the school. Do not send your
child to school with instructions to see the nurse to see if he/she
is ill or injured.

REMINDER:
If your child comes home in unfamiliar clothes it’s
because he or she had some kind of mishap at school and needed something
clean and dry to wear to finish up the day. The only way these clothes
can remain ‘clean and dry’ is if you return them that way. As always,
the under garments are new and are yours to keep. However, the
shirts, pants, coats, etc. are recycled and I rely on parents to return
them in the same condition that I gave them to your child - freshly
laundered. While they’re here, your kids are my kids, and I’d want
nothing less for them! Thank you!

Nurse Notes!
-
Second grade parents: Check those backpacks for dental
forms! I know at our house
summer is often the time we catch up on doctor visits, get our
eyes examined, and generally do the things we can’t get done
during the school year. Since dental exams are required by
the state in 3rd grade, giving you a head start sometimes helps
to get the exams done in a timely manner. It’s a great idea to
take the form with you to the dentist so (hopefully) there won’t
be a charge for it to be completed. I also recommend making
copies of ALL completed medical forms, sometimes the originals
don’t make the trip between your hands and your child’s medical
chart.
-
Allergy season seems to have snuck up on us, I’ve already seen a
few students with
red,
itchy eyes. Here are some clues that you may have developed
seasonal allergies:
-
Nasal congestion or clear runny nose.
-
Sneezing.
-
Itchy nose, eyes and/or throat.
-
Tearing eyes.
-
Dark circles under the eyes.
-
Coughing, wheezing or trouble breathing.
Here are some tips to help deal with these symptoms:
-
Shower every evening to remove pollen from
skin and hair and keep it from contaminating your sheets and
pillowcases.
-
Peak pollen times are between 5am & 10am so
plan outdoor activities at other times of the day.
-
Keep your windows closed while driving and,
at home, use air conditioning and change the filters often.
-
Don’t line dry your bed linens or clothes.
Take a quick shower and change clothes after prolonged
periods outside.
-
Avoid going outside when the pollen count is
high or on dry windy days.
-
Take your medicine as prescribed, the right
dose and at the right time.
The diagnosis of seasonal allergies should be made by a
doctor. The decision to use medication, even over the
counter medicines, to treat an allergy is an important one
and should only be made with the help and expertise of a
trusted medical professional.
Enjoy
the spring, it’s a beautiful gift!
