Marching Band/Symphonic Wind Ensemble
Music 090
Marching
Band/Symphonic Wind Ensemble (Advanced Band) is a co-curricular,
academic performing musical ensemble. Membership will include
participation in marching field, parade, and symphonic wind
ensemble. This course will be offered as a major (6 days of a 6-day
cycle). All members are required to attend a two-week marching band
camp prior to the opening of school.
The
marching band element of the course will rehearse on Monday and
Thursday evenings in September, October, and November from 5:30 to
8:30 PM, as well as on the days of competitions. The marching band
will attend all football games, and selected Tournament of Bands (TOB)
marching band competitions, from September through the second
weekend of November. In addition, there will be sectional rehearsals
scheduled once every three weeks during the marching band season
(3:30-5:30 PM).
The
symphonic wind ensemble will rehearse on days D, E, and F, during
the 6 day cycle of classes. The symphonic wind ensemble will perform
band literature on a grade V and VI level, and will perform two
concerts a year, as well as being adjudicated in the spring. There
will be a scheduled sectional rehearsal for the members of the
symphonic wind ensemble once every 2-3 weeks in the evening during
the months of December through April, which will be equated to, and
graded as, a homework assignment. The members of the symphonic wind
ensemble will also be members of the symphonic concert band, which
will rehearse on days A, B, and C. Enrollment in Marching
Band/Symphonic Wind Ensemble is mandatory towards membership in the
schools jazz ensemble (which will be selected through auditions in
November), audition for Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA)
sponsored District, Regional, and All-Sate Honors Bands, and
invitation to the summer American Music Abroad (AMA) program.
Members of the marching band must be enrolled in this class.
