Freshmen
If you:
- received
a mid-marking progress report
- are
struggling to maintain the grades you had last year
Or –
You
need to see your teacher to discuss the “why’s” for your grade. Remember
that you need to be studying (doing homework is not studying) at least 10-15
minutes each night for each major academic class you are taking. Talking to your
teacher is the FIRST STEP you need to take to improve your grades.
A Word On State Universities...
It is a common misconception that getting into
Pennsylvania’s State Universities (Kutztown, West Chester, Shippensburg, etc.)
is EASY. Being accepted into our State Universities is becoming increasingly
DIFFICULT. In talking to an admissions counselor from West Chester, these
statistics were sited from this year’s freshman class: 1640 freshmen came to
WCU from 12,000 applications. The average SAT score was 1050 and GPA was A/B. As
you can see, state universities are selective. The reason is simple:
money. It costs approximately $10,000 to $11,000 per year to attend West Chester
while most private colleges/universities cost anywhere from $20,000 to $30,000
per year or more. It is imperative for parents to encourage their sons and
daughters to study hard, keeping in mind that freshman grades are included on
transcripts.
