WHO CAN ATTEND WCTS?

Any 11th or 12th grade high school student who is a resident of Pottsgrove, Spring-Ford or Upper Perkiomen School Districts.

 

HOW WILL AN EDUCATION AT WCTS HELP ME?

The courses offered at WCTS are designed to prepare students of all ability levels to enter jobs in technical, skilled or semiskilled occupations. Many WCTS graduates find jobs or go to college within three months after graduation. Employers are eager to hire WCTS graduates because they have hands-on experience and need minimal training.

 

ARE ANY PROGRAMS GENDER SPECIFIC? 

Both male and female students are welcome in all programs offered at the WCTS. The student’s interest, goals, and abilities are what matter in selected a program.

 

WILL I STILL GRADUATE FROM MY HIGH SCHOOL IF I GO TO WCTS?

YES. You will earn elective course credits for participation in a WCTS program that will supplement the required academic courses needed for graduation. You will receive a Western Center for Technical Studies certificate of achievement in addition to your high school diploma ... dual credits that employers and colleges appreciate.

 

MAY I STILL PARTICIPATE IN SPORTS AND OTHER SENDING SCHOOL ACTIVITIES?

YES. The WCTS encourages students to participate m sports and other after-school activities at their home schools. Early dismissals and driving privileges are available upon request front the home school athletic director or activity sponsor.

 

DOES THE WCTS HAVE STUDENT ACTIVITIES?

Several organization and programs are offered at the WCTS to promote group interaction, community awareness, self-confidence and leadership skills. WCTS students may participate in clubs and activities at the sending school, as well.

 

CAN I GO TO COLLEGE IF I ATTEND WCTS?

ABSOLUTELY!! More than 53 %of WCTS graduates continue their education at a college, university, trade or technical school. WCTS will give you practical experience to complement yow academic interests. In fact, you may be eligible to receive college credits for transfer to an area college or technical school as a result of completing a WCTS course.

 

WHAT ABOUT GRADING?

Student evaluation reports will be issued to pupils 2 times during each semester. Academic grades and technical grades will be reported to your sending school and become part of your permanent record.

 

DOES WCTS HAVE CO-OP EXPERIENCE?

  Cooperative education is available for qualified senior students to gain instructional benefits while working for an employer Students must have mastered basic skills in their technical program, passing grades in their academics, demonstrate good attendance and punctuality, and display a good work attitude. Students must also be recommended by their instructors to this school-to-work program.

 

IS THERE A DRESS CODE?

Students in WCTS programs will be required to wear, and in some cases purchase, occupation appropriate clothing, uniforms, and safety equipment, which will vary according to program. Students are also required to wear school ID badges as part of their uniform.

 

WHAT TYPE OF SCHEDULE DOES WCTS FOLLOW?

WCTS operates under a modified block schedule. This means that 4 classes are scheduled for 80 minutes. Lunch is 30 minutes. A typical student schedule would include 2 blocks of academics and 2 blocks of their technical program. By following the block schedule, you can complete your academic requirements for graduation in a timely manner allowing more time in your technical program and or Co-Op experience.
