SPRING-FORD SCHOOL
DISTRICT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
PHYSICAL EDUCATION
REGULATIONS |
The Spring-Ford
Elementary Physical Education Program is designed to be part of your
child’s total educational experience. The objectives of this program
are aligned to the Physical Education National Standards which state
that a physically educated student:
1. Demonstrates competency in many
movement forms and proficiency in a few movement forms.
2. Applies involvement concepts and
principles to the learning and development of motor skills.
3. Exhibits a physically active
lifestyle.
4. Achieves and maintains a
health-enhancing level of physical fitness.
5. Demonstrates responsible personal
and social behavior in physical activity settings.
6. Demonstrates understanding and
respect for differences among people in physical activity
settings.
7. Understands that physical activity
provides opportunities for enjoyment, challenge,
self-expression, and social interaction.
Because your child
can only achieve these objectives through active participation in a
variety of developmentally appropriate activities, it is necessary
for your son/daughter to abide by the following guidelines:
1. Athletic sneakers must be worn in
order to participate in physical education class. Sneakers need
to be laced and tied securely at all times. Fashion sneakers
with platform soles (oversized/thick) or clog-type sneakers are
not acceptable for safety reasons.
2. Clothing must be appropriate for
both indoor and outdoor physical activity. Wearing skirts or
dresses is considered inappropriate unless shorts are worn
underneath. Excessively baggy pants that interfere with your
child’s performance are discouraged. Jewelry should not be worn.
3. Any student who does not abide by
the above procedure four (4) times in the same semester will
receive a “Needs Improvement” (N) grade on their report card.
This applies to students in Grades 2,3, and 4. Kindergarten and
first grade students are evaluated differently.
4. If your child cannot participate
in physical education class for one week only, a note from home
is necessary. If a student needs to be excused for more than one
week, a doctor’s note is required.
5. If glasses are necessary, a note
from home which gives permission to the student to wear his or
her glasses is required. Guards for glasses are recommended.
Your compliance with
these regulations will allow teachers to teach, challenge and
support your child so he/she may realize his/her maximum potential.
