Introduction

Dragonflies, Pond Skaters, and Walking Sticks,  Insects are everywhere!  Can you name one thing that all insects hate?  The cold.  That is why insects can be found all over the word, except in Antarctica.  It is just too cold there for insects.  Which is nice news for the penguins. 

If you would like to learn more about insects (including the one under your chair) then read on.  

It will be your quest as an insect investigator to research information about insects, create a booklet, answer questions, and then name and identify a new insect that you will design. 

Okay investigators, it is time to continue on in your quest for the ultimate insect.

Task    

Your task is to create an informational booklet, and answer questions about insects.  Then, you will "discover" a new insect by describing its characteristics.  Finally, you will create a 3-D model of the insect and share the information with your class.

The Process            

 1. Create a booklet on insects

    a). Print out a copy of the booklet for each person in the group.

    b). Use the table below to help answer the questions in your booklet.

2. Answer the questions about insects     


   
a). Print out the insect investigator sheet.

    b). Complete the insect investigator sheet.  Be sure to write your answers in complete sentences.

3. "Discover" your new insect

    a). Print out the planning guide to help you create your insect.

    b). Complete the planning guide.  Be sure to include all of the essential elements for an insect.
    c). Create a 3-D model of your new insect out of modeling clay.

4. Prepare to introduce your newly discovered insect to the class.
