Scott Foresman Reading is a complete, systematic, and balanced language arts program which includes phonics, comprehension, oral language, writing, grammar, spelling and study skills. All language skills in each unit complement and reinforce each other. The program provides materials and instruction to meet the needs of all students. |

| Scott Foresman Reading is correlated to the Pennsylvania Academic Standards. It prepares the students for both the PSSA and the Terra Nova as well as to be proficient life-long readers. | |
| Skills Emphasized | In second grade the emphasize is on phonics and it connection to spelling, comprehension, grammar, fluency, the writing process, and encouragement of independent silent reading. |
