FIRST GRADE NEWS!

The month of October continues to be a busy one for our first grade classes!  The children enjoyed participating in Fire Prevention Week, doing activities involving fire safety in class, and enjoyed a visit from our local firefighters and emergency workers here at our school.  The children are looking forward to the Halloween parties and celebrations in our classrooms on October 31st

In the subject areas, the classes are enjoying our challenging work in Math.  Please continue to review exchanging pennies for nickels, counting by fives, twos, and tens, and telling time to the hour.  In Reading, we are practicing our Word Study Words daily, working with our rhyming word families, and reinforcing our spelling words.  Please help your child practice these skills as a part of his/her homework time each evening.  We are also continuing to practice sentence formation.  The children have also enjoyed our unit on Geography during our Social Studies classes as well as our new Science series.

In early November, conference survey letters will be coming home to schedule a conference time with the teacher to discuss your child’s progress.  The first grade students do not receive a formal report card for the first marking period.

Thank you for you continued support!  Be sure to contact your child’s teacher if any questions arise.

                                    Sincerely,

                                    The first grade teachers
