Fact Monster - Kid friendly with short and sweet articles on just about every topic.  http://www.factmonster.com/

National Geographic for Kids - Yet another kid friendly site that gives slightly more information than fact monster.  http://kids.nationalgeographic.com/

Glossopedia - Relatively new encyclopedia site for kids.  Glossopedia uses more interactive pictures, sounds, videos to introduce topics.  http://www.globio.org/glossopedia/default.aspx

National Geographic's Animals A-Z - This is a great site to find more detailed information about different animals.  Use the search feature on the right-hand side to help find your animal.  http://animals.nationalgeographic.com/animals/a-to-z.html

Wikipedia - Wikipedia is a free, user edited and maintained site that gives tons of information about tens of thousands of topics.  Use the search feature on the left-hand side to find articles about different topics. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page

The BBC (British Broadcasting Company) has a great website especially the section for about Science & Energy.  Check it out.  http://www.bbc.co.uk/sn/

The Discovery Channel is online with its website.  The focus is more on the shows then information and articles but still worth a look.  http://dsc.discovery.com/

 

 
Map Resources

Free printable maps for just about every country in the world (including Europe and South America) http://geography.about.com/library/blank/blxindex.htm

Printable maps in pdf format - easy to save!!  Includes a map key for each map!! http://www.eduplace.com/ss/maps/index.html

Great site for maps but it does takes a while to load.  Either click on the name of the continent or country to get a more detailed map or choose from the drop down menu at the top.  http://www.nationalgeographic.com/xpeditions/atlas/

This site has a really cool interactive map of Europe.  Float the cursor over the map to see the name of each country and its capital.  http://www.yourchildlearns.com/europe_map.htm

 

 
                       
Country Reports

The BBC is the best!!  The British Broadcasting Company has profiles for every country in the world.  The information includes timelines and basic maps. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/country_profiles/default.stm

Fact Monster RULES!!  Here is one of Third Grade's favorite website's information on the countries of the world.  http://www.factmonster.com/countries.html

Blank and printable flags for all parts of the world.  Site takes a long time to load.  Choose the region for your country and find the flag on the next page listed alphabetically.  http://www.crwflags.com/fotw/flags/cbk.html

Answers.com provides dictionary and encyclopedia entries for all the countries of the world.  Simply type your country's name in the search bar and click the name of your country with the word country in parentheses to find the entry.  Also this site offers audio of the country's name for hard to pronounce countries like Macedonia!!  http://www.answers.com/

Wikipedia.com is a unique site because it is updated by its users.  If there is information that needs to be corrected or updated users can make the changes themselves.  This makes Wikipedia a great site for updated information on any topic!!  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page

The CIA has a fact book about every country in the world.  Be a spy and find out more about these countries for your report.  http://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/index.html

Timelines of History has timelines for every corner of the world dating back to before recorded history.  Be careful there is a lot of information on these timelines!!  http://timelines.ws/

A great resource for flags, this site gives you a simple history of the flags from all over the world.  The flags colors and symbols are also explored.  http://www.worldflags101.com/
