Voice problems refer to an abnormality in pitch, quality, or loudness

Characterized by:                                                                                          

 
  • Abnormal pitch, quality, intensity and/or resonance.
  • Speaking with pitch inappropriate for age and/or sex
  • Speaking habitually with strained, breathy, harsh, or hoarse vocal quality.
  • Speaking too loudly or softly for the situation.
  • Speaking with inappropriate oral/nasal resonance.
 
Many times these types of problems will be diagnosed medically rather than educationally.

 

Voice differences can be a symptom of medical concerns.

 

Poor vocal hygiene can lead to lasting physical changes of the vocal folds.

 

Noticeable differences in vocal pitch, quality, & volume can affect self confidence and peer relationships.
