  • Write an entry for each source you used.  
  • Arrange the entries in alphabetical order.
  • Do not number your entries.
  • Double space your entire bibliography.
  • Indent all but the first line of each entry by 1/2 inch.
Formats and Sample Entries  - information in parenthesis is required punctuation. If one of the items is not available, skip it and the punctuation that follows it.  Your entry should always end with a period.

A Book Written by a Single Author: 

Include the following information in the order listed. 

  • Author's last name (comma-,) first name (period-.)
  • Book title - underlined or in italics (period-.) If a subtitle is used list the title (colon-:) subtitle (period-.)
  • Edition-abbreviated ed (period-.) (this only applies if the edition is listed on the title page - never include 1st ed.)
  • Place of publication (colon-:) Use whatever is on the title page - just city or city (comma-,) state.
  • Publisher (comma-,)
  • Year published (period-.)

Example:

Paulson, Gary.  Hatchet.  New York:  Newburg Publishing, 2002.

A Book Written by a Two or Three Authors: 

Include the following information in the order listed. 

  • Last name of the first author listed on the title page (comma-,) first name (comma-,) second author's first and last name (comma-,) third author's first and last name (period-.)
  • Book title - underlined or in italics (period-.) If a subtitle is used list the title (colon-:) subtitle (period-.)
  • Edition-abbreviated ed (period-.) (this only applies if the edition is listed on the title page - never include 1st ed.)
  • Place of publication (colon-:)
  • Publisher (comma-,)
  • Year published (period-.)

An Internet Resource

  • Author of the article or web page-last name (comma-,) first name (period-.)
  • Title of the article or page (in quotation marks) (period-.) The period goes inside the quotes.
  • Title of the Web site (underlined or in italics) (period)
  • Date of publication or last update (period-.) Written - day number <space> Month spelled out <space> year number.
  • Name of Web site sponsor.  This is usually a company or organization name. (period-.)
  • Date you accessed the information. (no punctuation) Written - day number <space> Month spelled out <space> year number.
  • URL or web address in angle brackets and underlined-<http://> (period-.)

Example:
