Athletic Training

Spring-Ford Athletic Training:

Athletic Trainers (ATs) are healthcare professionals who render service or treatment, under the direction of or in collaboration with a physician, in accordance with their education and training and the states' statutes, rules and regulations. As a part of the healthcare team, services provided by ATs include injury and illness prevention, wellness promotion and education, emergent care, examination and clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention, and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions. Athletic training is recognized by the American Medical Association (AMA) as a healthcare profession.

Athletic training practice domains include:

  • Injury and Illness Prevention and Wellness Promotion
  • Examination, Assessment and Diagnosis
  • Immediate and Emergency Care
  • Therapeutic Intervention
  • Healthcare Administration and Professional Responsibility

Medically related Continuing Education (CE) hours are required every two years to maintain National Certification and State Licensure. CE requirements are intended to promote continued competence, development of current knowledge and skills and enhancement of professional skills and judgment. They must focus on increasing knowledge, skills and abilities related to the practice of athletic training. CE programs must also be intended for credentialed healthcare providers.

Injury Management Guidelines:

After completing an evaluation of an athlete, if we feel it necessary for he/she to see a physician, a phone call is made to the parent/guardian and a medical referral form is sent home with a description of the injury and what care was given. If an athlete sustains a minor injury, a home injury report will be sent home with post injury instructions. ANY ATHLETE WHO IS SEEN BY A PHYSICIAN FOR EITHER AN ILLNESS OR AN INJURY IS REQUIRED TO HAVE A NOTE FROM THE PHYSICIAN CLEARING THE ATHLETE FOR PARTICIPATION BEFORE RETURNING TO THEIR SPORT. If the athlete sustains an injury and does not report it to the Athletic Training Staff and you decide to take him/her to a physician, a note from the physician clearing the athlete to return to their sport is also REQUIRED prior to return to activity. We cannot stress the importance of a physicians note for return to play and if your child does provide the staff with one, he/she will not be permitted to participate.
