Parents

Welcome back to a new school year, and a new online experience! Earlier this summer we launched the new Spring-Ford website and have spent the last few months making changes and updates based on your feedback. The launch of a new website is a tedious undertaking and a continuous work in progress, we truly appreciate your excitement and willingness to embrace change!

Parent Portals are now open! Please take a few moments to watch the training videos below before accessing your new Parent Portal.

Using Group Spaces

A Group Space is comparable to what parents previously knew as a Fusion page. Your Group Space offers virtually endless opportunities to stay organized with multiple students in multiple classes and are a perfect fit for just about everything and everyone at your school. Group Spaces are ideal for receiving information about club competitions and meeting times, as well as resources for helping students catch up on what they've missed and prepare for what's next.

Let’s start by looking at your personalized Group Space. Once logged in, click on Groups Dashboard at the top of your page.

  • Your Dashboard shows a unified Activity Stream, displaying the most recent actions taken in each of a teacher's groups, as well as upcoming calendar items scheduled for each of the user's groups.
  • For a more specific view of your child’s class, hover over “classes” and select a student name and a specific class.
  • Here we see a recent activity stream, as well as resources.
  • Homework assignment will be posted in the Calendar section.
  • Athletic and club group spaces will be available for those students involved in an extracurricular activity. Though daily updates will be sent, logging into this space regular is encouraged.

What is an alert? Alerts automatically let you know when a particular piece of web content has been updated. You can use subscribe to alerts for Athletics team events, News categories, blog posts, discussion forums, or any other web feature that features updating content. If any of the content sources you subscribe to is updated, you’ll receive an email notification, a text message, or both.

Calendar events, for instance, allow you to set how far in advance you'd like to get a reminder for an event. You can also opt into receiving Cancellation, Postponement and schedule change alerts (if applicable). Athletics event alerts offer those same advance warning features, as well as the option to receive a subsequent alert when the score and results are posted for that event. You can subscribe to receive alerts whenever News items are posted. News items are sorted by category, and just as with calendars you can elect to subscribe to some categories but not others. How do I sign up for homework calendar alerts? If you’d prefer to receive an alert, rather than check the portal, you can sign up for calendar alerts. The intent of this is to really just "alert" a user if a change is made to an existing event on the calendar (a teacher changes the due date of a project or test date, for example). Simply click on “calendar tools” then select Calendar alerts. Here you can sign up for as many, or as few calendar alerts as you’d like. You can also select when and how you’d like to receive the alert. If you’ve enabled text messages you will be able to receive a text update when a homework assignment is added

I have multiple children in the district, how can I best organize my Group Space calendar? You can quickly change the color of each calendar by hovering over a particular class and clicking on the gear too to correspond with each individual child.

Can I sync a Group Space calendar with my personal device? Click here for directions to sync a Group Space calendar with your personal device. Syncing a Group Space calendar will "pull" information into your device calendar.

How frequently will I receive an alert? Alerts are customizable for each individual parent. Your updates, depending on how and when you’d like to receive them, may be different than your friend or neighbors updates. For instance, you can select as many or as few classes as you’d like and in some cases, can select when you’d like to receive the update.

What is the difference between Skyward and Finalsite? Skyward is used to track attendances, view grades, access health records and much more. Finalsite, particularly the Group Space area, is used much like SchoolFusion was used as an online classroom space.

There is a parent portal and a student portal, do I need to log into the student portal? As a parent, you are already linked to your student. Your view is nearly identical as your students view. The only difference is their ability to interact with their teacher and classmates in teacher-guided discussions.
