| Theme 1- It's cool! It's School! | In this theme we will read Hurray
for Ali Baba Bernstein, Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing, and Koya
Delaney and the Good Girl Blues. All of these stories are taken
from larger books by the same titles. This theme focuses on skills such
as: vocabulary, using base words, compound words, subjects and predicates,
kinds of sentences and correcting run-on sentences. |
Theme 2- Earth Patrol | In this theme we will read the
stories: The Great Yellowstone Fire, The Great Kapok Tree and Just
a Dream. These stories all focus on ecology and preserving our
planet. This theme focuses on the skills: common and proper
nouns, singular and plural nouns, as well as singular and plural possessive
nouns, and combining sentences with compound subjects and/or compound
predicates . |
Theme 3- Super Sleuths | In this theme we will be reading
three mysteries: Meg Mackintosh and the Case of the Curious Whale Watch;
Julian, Secret Agent; and Encyclopedia Brown and the Case of the Disgusting
Sneakers. We will be learning many new vocabulary words throughout this
theme, therefore the students can expect to have several vocabulary quizzes.
Some English skills that we will be reviewing are: using adjectives,
comparing with adjectives and comparing with good and bad.
We will also be studying multiple meaning words as well as looking at roots tele
and graph. We will be taking fingerprint samples and examining the
differences, students tend to really enjoy this activity! |
