If you are looking for a good website to help reinforce your child's math skills try: http://www.aaastudy.com/grade4.htm or http://www.mathslice.com/ This gives games linked to various lessons for each grade from first to fifth of Everyday Math. The games come in a multitude of levels that students can pick themselves to make the games easier or more challenging. |

Unit 1 focuses on geometry. Students will review names of shapes. They will be able to identify characteristics of polygons and parallelograms. They will also will be required to identify parallel and intersecting lines. |

Unit 2 introduces new strategies to add and subtract multi-digit numbers. Students are expected to be able to read and write numbers into the millions place. Graphing is reviewed. Students learn how to find the median and range of a set of data. To reinforce their skills students can play "Name That Number" and "Number Top-It" using the 7-digit place value chart. |

Unit 3 provides plenty of practice to reinforce multiplication facts. By the end of this unit, each student should have an "automatic" recall of all basic multiplication facts. Additional lessons focus on strategies to solve number stories, as well ad diagrams to use when solving addition and subtraction problems. Students will be exploring algebra concepts such as open sentences, and parentheses in number sentences. |

Unit 4 starts by reviewing basic concepts of decimals (understanding fraction concepts, reading decimals and decimal notation). Students will be required to read and write decimals, order and make estimations with decimals. Students will be introduced to adding and subtracting with decimals. Finally, students will be working with personal references for measurement and using decimals when measuring in metric units |

Unit 5 focuses on the extension of multiplication facts. Students will use "Multiplication Wrestling" to help them break apart and multiply a two digit number by a two digit number. A helpful hint to remember when using this method is FOIL (first, outer, inner, last). Students will also be working on estimating sums and products. Lessons 5.5 and 5.6 look at using the strategy of partial-products (builds off the idea of multiplication wrestling). We will once again be using lattice multiplication, the students favorite! Students will be required to read, write, and compare large numbers. Lesson 5.10 looks at powers of 10 and writing numbers in exponential form. |

Unit 6 starts by demonstrating two different division
strategies, the multiples strategy and the partial-quotients algorithm.
Students may use their preferred method of division on the test. Students
will work on solving multiplication and division number stories and learn
how to interpret the remainder. Several lessons focus on measuring
angles using circle protractors and regular protractors. Students will
also be reintroduces to latitude and longitude. At the end of this unit, we will begin reviewing for the mid-year assessment test. This is a comprehensive test on all skills that have been taught this year thus far. |
