Math

Students have entered into the world of measurement.   In our new unit, Unit 10,  we are learning about standard and metric measurement as it relates to distance, weight, and capacity.  As always, our memorization of basic multiplication and division facts remains an intricate part of our daily math routine.

Reading

We have recently started our final unit called Imagination.kids.  This unit asks the question:  How many ways can we use our imagination?  We will be reading stories that help answer that question as the students explore their own imaginations.  Skills that we will be practicing throughout this unit are generalizing, making judgments, and setting.  Students will also continue to strengthen our phonics skills by studying the schwa sound, syllables, digraphs and suffixes.

Science

Our recent trip to Crystal Cave was fascinating!  Students were able to explore the cave and learn more about rocks.  Most of us even discovered some of the minerals we worked with in class when we panned for gemstones.  What fun!

In future science lessons, children will learn that energy drives the world in which we live.  All movement, light, heat, and sound come from some form of energy.  Students will also study how living things interact with each other, how they adapt to their habitats, and how different living things obtain energy for survival.
