Dear Parents,
As you know, we are on our way through the month of December. This is traditionally a month of holidays and celebrations and a time for sharing and giving. Presently we are working on a three-week economics unit prior to the holiday break. The class has started brainstorming ideas for a project that will involve a neighborhood of small shops where students will be selling items. The purpose of the project is to promote teamwork and collaboration of ideas to accomplish a goal. Any sales of items are good but the object is to work as a team to create the most profit. Rather than using real currency, the class will create and vote on a currency name and graphic and this will be used to purchase items in the neighborhood of shops. (This will have no value outside of class). Each group of (2) students will decide what to sell, give a value to their items making them seem appealing, create a store front to advertise for their store and products, and sell their products in a strategic way. Items for the store can be made or bought. (Items could include cookies, homemade bracelets, small toys, pencils, erasers, etc.) Please limit your child to spending no more than $10 - $15 on items. Rather than doing a holiday gift exchange, all students will go home with items they “purchase” in class and will hopefully sell much of what they brought to sell in order to gain a profit.
What we will do IN CLASS: Discuss consumers/producers, supply and demand, and economic decisions. We’ll decide what to sell, make store fronts, design the currency, assign prices to products, sell the products, and compare profits with other groups.
What you can do AT HOME: Students will decide on products to make or purchase them at Wal-Mart, school store, or a Dollar Tree type store. Collect the products over the next two weeks and bring them to school on the week of Dec. 15th – 19th to assign prices. Have fun and good luck!
The date of the actual neighborhood shopping will be December 22nd in the afternoon. Thank you for all of your support! Puppet Biography - Oral Report
This book report is designed to familiarize yourself so much with the subject that you become that person for the report. You will be reporting orally about “your childhood”, “your experiences”, and “your life” in general. The puppet will be made to look like the person the biography is about and the puppet will do the talking, through you, as thought it were an autobiography. Due Date _____________________
