OLYMPIC DAY –
Organized by physical
education teacher, Mr. Chad Neiswender, this year’s Olympic Day held
on Friday, June 1, was a complete success. After the opening
ceremonies, which included each class representing a different
country, the students energetically engaged in a number of
cooperative games, as well as a variety of team-focused activities.
Many parent volunteers assisted, as well as 26 capable high school
students. After lunch and the conclusion of the afternoon events,
staff members opposed the fourth graders for an exciting kickball
game. Each fourth grade class had an opportunity to play one
inning, and second grade teacher Mrs. Melissa Pogash led some
between-inning dance activities and provided the play-by-play
commentary.
SAFETY PATROL
RECOGNITION – This year’s
recognition outing for the school safety patrol was held at Jungle
Wonder in Limerick. The 55 students enjoyed a variety of activities
as well as some refreshments. The annual recognition is sponsored
by the Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO), and is a way of thanking
the students for the service that they provide to the school by
assisting students on the buses, in the hallways, and with the adult
crossing guards who safely cross students who walk to school.
FOURTH GRADE
CELEBRATION – Each year,
the PTO sponsors a night to recognize the accomplishments of our
fourth graders as they leave Royersford Elementary. The activity is
family-based, and is comprised of a dinner and an awards program,
and this year’s theme was “A Star Studded Celebration.” Our fourth
graders can bring two guests, who are usually their parents, and
they enjoy a meal prepared by our cafeteria personnel, and served by
volunteer staff members. Awards are presented to our students for
participation in a variety of activities including the safety
patrol, Secret Agents service club, morning announcements news crew,
dance production, the Presidential Physical Fitness Challenge, and
the Reading Olympics. The final portion of the night is a slide
show featuring our students and includes a current picture preceded
by a baby picture.
PRO-SOCIAL
SKILLS CULMINATING ACTIVITY –
Our students celebrated their
pro-social skills accomplishments on June 8. A beach-themed lunch
was enjoyed by the students, who were able to eat outside on
blankets and beach towels. In the afternoon, a children’s singing
group, “The Cat’s Pajamas” performed for the school family. On the
day before, students engaged in our final “school family” activity.
Mixed grade level groups met with a staff member and composed RES
post cards as a way of expressing appreciation to area police, fire
fighters, EMT workers, and service men and women who serve in the
military. The post cards featured scenes from various area around
the school.

COOL SCHOOL –
The PTO’s ninth annual
summer enrichment program began this week. More than 70 courses are
being offered with more than 1,200 course slots filled over the
three weeks of the program. The program is coordinated by Upper
Providence teacher and Royersford parent Mrs. Jean Lare. She is
assisted by an army of district teachers as well as student and
parent volunteers. There are still openings during the weeks of
July 9 and July 16. More information is available on the Royersford
