Ruffo's Expectations

You can expect homework each night Monday through Thursday.  Homework needs to be completed before school begins.  All homework is either collected or checked in the morning.  Each homework assignment is worth 3 points – Neat, Complete and On-Time.

If homework is not completed, the student will come in at recess to finish it and then go immediately outside upon completion.  The student then receives 2 points for the assignment. If a homework assignment is never turned in it receives a 0.  If homework is forgotten but completed, the student may bring it in the next day for 2 points.

Homework Schedule for the School Year

I try to keep the homework structured throughout the year to help 4th graders learn how to become more organized in order to transition to 5th grade by the end of the school year.  Consistency and structure provide a good basis for keeping organized and on top of school assignments at home and at school.

Reading Homework

Monday:  Read 20 minutes and record a summary and reaction on the SSR log.

Tuesday:  Vocabulary practice book page from the Reading Practice Book

Wednesday:  Study Weekly Vocabulary Words for a quiz on Thursday

Thursday:  Write each vocabulary Word in a sentence

 Spelling Homework

Monday: Spelling Words written 3x’s each in cursive

Tuesday:  First 10 words (1-10) in an original sentence in cursive.

Wednesday:  Second 10 words (11-20) in an original sentence in cursive.

Thursday:  ABC order in cursive  Study words for Test on Friday

Grammar Homework

Each night I assign a workbook page from the Grammar Workbook in order to practice the grammar skill that we learned or reviewed in class from that day.

Monday:  Grammar Page

Tuesday:  Grammar Page

Wednesday:  Grammar Page

Thursday:  Grammar Page

Math Homework

Each night I assign a study link from the lesson that was covered that day in math.

Monday:  Study Link

Tuesday:  Study Link

Wednesday:  Study Link

Thursday: Study Link

The homework usually follows this pattern throughout the year unless we are at the end of a theme in reading and grammar where the homework may change slightly due to the nature of testing.  The same holds true for Math where I may assign them to study or practice math facts at the end of a unit.

The amount of homework in Social Studies, Science and Health is minimal throughout the year because we do the majority of the work in school with hands on projects and experiments.  There may be some projects that require a short journal entry to keep track of or keep a log sometime throughout the year but again it is minimal.
