 Second Grade

"Communities"

In Second Grade, students will learn about communities.  We'll start by asking students to think about their own habitats.   A habitat is the physical area where a plant or animal gets everything they need to live, including shelter.   Students will define their habitat, and even a favorite pet's habitat.  Later, we'll play a game about animal real estate (habitats) and we'll take a walk down to the creek.  There are lots of animals whose habitats can be found in and around a creek!  We'll even do some water sampling to learn about the physical characteristics of a creek.

Make sure to wear your boots or a pair of old shoes that can get muddy!   This lesson is definitely a hands-on experience!
