"Adaptations"

In Third Grade, we'll explore how plants and animals are adapted to different habitats.  We'll take a plant walk and inspect different plants and trees, noting their leaves, seed pods, and bark textures.  We'll discover that each of these things are really adaptations that have enabled each plant to survive.

We'll also play several games, including an animal sound canister game that will keep you guessing about who your lost animal baby could be!  Then, each student will make an organism out of just a handful of LEGOs®.  Sounds simple, but will your creation survive as we ask them to adapt to changing habitats??!

Finally, we'll play one of my favorite games, "Oh, Deer!"  This is an active game that will teach students about food, water, and shelter, and how environmental pressures affect deer and other animal populations.
