                            What is the role of the Reading Specialist?

1.  The Reading Specialist screens all new students.

2.  The Reading Specialist provides additional reinforcement 
and practice of reading skills.  This additional assistance is 
provided through small group instruction in the Reading Room 
or by working in the classroom with the teacher.
3.  The Reading Specialist promotes reading throughout the 
school by organizing R.I.F. Days sponsored by the Spring City PTA.

                            How do you determine if a child needs additional help in

                             reading?

1.  The Reading Specialist is a resource person for teachers and parents.

 

2.  Teachers recommend students for screening by the Reading Specialist based on their assessment of the student's reading ability in the classroom.

 

3.  The Reading Specialist and the Principal review reading test scores on a regular basis.  Students who are struggling receive additional screening by the Reading Specialist.  
4.  Parents request screening by the Reading Specialist because they are concerned about their child's reading performance.
