WHAT IS RIF AND UGI?

READING IS FUNDAMENTAL -RIF

" From the day your child is born, the language activities you share begin building a foundation for later reading skills. Recent research on brain development has found that language acquisition begins much earlier than commonly believed, with some sound recognition even happening in the womb. By age two children often have a vocabulary of 2,000 words. Although the development of the brain is preprogrammed by genetics, the quality of that development depends largely on the environment you create during these formative years". RIF Foundation.

Since 1966, Reading Is Fundamental has been helping children discover the magic of reading. Through a network of more than 310,000 volunteers at 18,000 sites across the nation , they provide new, free books to children that they get to choose, take home, and keep. Each year RIF gives away about 14 million books and other literacy resources to more than 4 million children.

RIF also develops and delivers children's and family literacy programs that help specific audiences, such as young parents and daycare providers. You can find RIF programs in schools, libraries, child-care centers, hospitals, migrant worker camps, Head Start and Even Start Programs, churches, detention centers and community centers----anywhere there are children who need books. RIF is made possible by the support and donations of the Coca Cola Company.

We like to thank our PTA who so generously helps to sponsor our RIF programs here at Spring City. They help us to receive the free books as well as fund a part of our Author Program that correlates to one of our RIF Days.
