WELCOME TO FIRST GRADE!

My name is Mrs. Novia. I will be your first grade teacher! I am so excited to meet you! I have many FUN and EXCITING things for us to do this year! You will become a WONDERFUL reader and learn to spell lots of words! Math class will be a lot of fun because in some of our lessons we will be making shapes from straws and learn TONS of new math games!

In order for you to know what clothes might be best to wear on certain days (example: on Phys. Ed. days wear sneakers) I left our “Specials” schedule at the bottom of this letter. Our school uses a “5 Day” schedule so Phys. Ed. will always be on Day 4, but it may not always remain on the same day of the week. To avoid confusion I will have the class write “wear sneakers” in their homework book the day before Phys. Ed. so don’t worry! If you would like to buy lunch or juice/milk you can send $10.00 in an envelope. This is a good amount to start with. Please label the envelope with your name, Mrs. Novia and room 107.

I’m enclosing four nametags with this letter. It would be terrific if you could wear these nametags the first week of school, then I won’t get confused with so many new faces in my class! Feel free to color them! Afternoons may be long so I’m allowing you to bring a snack and we will have snack time everyday because I get hungry just like you do! It is imperative that you refrain from snacks containing peanuts. For some ideas, I will email a list of snack ideas that do not contain peanuts. Thank you in advance for your cooperation!!

There are a few supplies that you can bring to school. It would be wonderful if you could bring some school supplies for your desk such as: a plastic school/pencil box with you name on it, pencils and a folder. If you would like, I can always use gallon size and sandwich size zip-lock bags, tissues, Clorox wipes and hand sanitizer for the classroom.
