SEL Screener

As part of its ongoing commitment to support students, Spring-Ford will be implementing an important new initiative in the 2025-2026 school year. In grades 2–8, students will participate in a universal screener designed to support students’ social, academic, emotional, and behavioral development.

A universal screener is a brief questionnaire that all students complete during the school day. Similar to how academic assessments are used to determine instructional needs, this screener will help schools identify ways to support students’ emotional, social, and behavioral needs that may impact academic success. The online universal screener being introduced is called mySAEBRS.

SEL SCREENER FAQ'S

How long does it take to complete? Approximately 5-10 minutes on the computer.

How will the data be used? The data collected from this questionnaire will be used to help determine if a student has additional needs. Students who identify a need may be supported with instruction or activities that help build these skills.

Does this assessment diagnose my child? No! The purpose of this assessment is to provide some insight into challenges your child may be experiencing that are not always visible. The intent of the questionnaire is to determine who may be “at risk” of having challenges that may interfere with students ability to be successful. It is not a definitive answer, nor does it result in a “label.” The information gathered from this questionnaire will be combined with other information such as parent/guardian input, teacher observation and input etc.

Will the results be shared with parents? Our school team will be looking more closely at students where results show "Some Risk" or "High Risk" of needing additional support. As part of this deeper look, the school teams will involve families to gain additional information about student's educational history and experiences. This may lead to the creation of an intervention plan which aims to connect students to supports through the MTSS process. MTSS (which stands for Multi-Tiered System of Support) is a collaborative process that includes parent/guardians. The goal of MTSS is to identify student needs and strategically provide interventions to address those needs.

Privacy and Confidentiality: The information gathered through the screener will only be accessible to authorized school personnel. Individual student data will not be shared publicly.

What questions are asked? Above, you will find the complete list of the questions that will be asked.

Parent/Guardian Involvement: We believe that parents and guardians play a vital role in supporting their children's social and emotional development. We encourage you to talk to your child about the importance of overall well being and to reach out to us with any questions or concerns.

What if I don’t want my child to participate? Not a problem! We respect your choice. Please notify your child’s homeroom teacher before the assessment dates and ask for them to be exempt. Please be sure to email the teacher at least one day prior to the assessment since teachers, while teaching, may not be able to check email during the day. This questionnaire will be given every year in grades 2-8. Since your child will have a different teacher each year, please be sure to request this each year, this way we don’t miss your request. Unfortunately we cannot accommodate requests for students to complete only part of the questionnaire.
