On August 17, 2020 the Spring-Ford Board of School Directors approved changes to the 2020-2021 School Calendar. The first day of school will now be Tuesday, September 8, 2020 and the tentative last day of school will be June 22, 2021. If approved by PDE for the Flexible Instruction Day Program, the tentative last day of school will move to June 17, 2021. In addition, the In-Service day scheduled for October 12, 2020 will be moved to September 4, 2020, making October 12, 2020 a normal school day for students. This change moves the last day of the first marking period to November 11, 2020.
The calendar typically has built-in emergency days in the event of school cancellations, such as Snow Days. This year, Spring-Ford Area School District is applying for Flexible Instruction Days (FID) through the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE).
About the Flexible Instruction Day Program (FID): A Flexible Instructional Day or FID can be used in place of a snow day or other unplanned school closure and eliminate the need for a make-up day because students perform classwork at home. On a FID, students would complete learning assignments provided by the teacher at home on a day that otherwise would have been cancelled through Canvas. FID is a program available to public school entities to be used as an alternative approach to deliver instruction if a circumstance arises that prevents in-person instruction in a customary manner. A public school electing to institute a FID program must complete a FID program that meets the assurances outlined in the application. The FID application must be approved by the public school’s Board of School Directors prior to acceptance by the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE).
