Eclipse Livestream 2024

Good morning Spring-Ford community,

I rarely get an opportunity to communicate with our community about two natural phenomena in one email, and I appreciate your patience as we share some important information related to the recent earthquake and upcoming eclipse.

Earlier today, there were reports of an earthquake of magnitude 4.8 in Whitehouse Station, New Jersey. The earthquake's tremors were felt as far as Allentown, PA, and may have been felt by some in the Spring-Ford area. Our Facilities Team quickly moved into action to check our structures and has reported no incidents related to the tremors. They will continue to conduct building checks through the weekend to ensure the buildings remain safe.

As well, an exciting astronomical event is approaching: the April 8th partial eclipse. Spring-Ford, along with many of our neighboring districts, will keep the school day the same on Monday, April 8th. This means that regular class schedules will be followed, and Spring-Ford will not dismiss early.

We're excited to have a livestream opportunity that will offer safe indoor viewing during the high of the event and will also provide scientific and historical details about eclipses. Teachers will incorporate relevant curriculum materials into their lessons to enhance students' understanding of eclipses and their significance.

While eclipses are fascinating natural phenomena, it's essential to emphasize that observing them directly can be hazardous. Therefore, professionals strongly advise against looking directly at the sun at any point, and particularly during a partial eclipse. We understand that some families may wish to view the eclipse together outside of school hours. If you plan to observe the eclipse as a family, please ensure that you contact your child's attendance office in advance.
