Water Testing

• This Lead Drinking Water Testing Sampling Plan was developed by the Spring-Ford Area School District based on guidance developed by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA).The purpose of this document is to establish a plan for sampling lead at drinking water outlets used for consumption or food preparation in every school within the District. The data collected through the execution of this Sampling Plan will determine if immediate remedial measures are necessary and will assist in the prioritization of future water testing for lead in accordance with this Sampling Plan.
• Drinking water outlets include faucets, ice machines, water fountains/bubblers, and water coolers in classrooms, kitchens, and food preparation areas.
• The testing of drinking water outlets will be conducted in accordance with this Sampling Plan.Corrective actions may be implemented at any drinking water outlets found to exceed the US Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) drinking water lead Action Level of 15 parts per billion (PPB) per liter.For the purposes of compliance any concentration greater than 15 PPB (as defined as greater than or equal to 15 PPB) is considered to exceed the lead Action Level.
• This Sampling Plan is based on the USEPA publication “The 3Ts for Reducing Lead in Drinking Water in Schools.”

SFASD will provide a school specific formal notification to parents and staff as test results become available which will provide the actual lead in water content measurement for all drinking outlets sampled measured in parts per billion (PPB).

1. Schools with any outlet testing greater than the EPA’s action level of 15 PBA will have the drinking outlet identified and removed from service pending remediation and resampling.

2. When necessary, SFASD will provide a follow up formal notification to parents and staff related to any outlet that originally tested greater than the EPA’s action level of 15 PBA with the new test results.

3. Water testing results will be updated regularly and posted on the District’s web site.

Remediation Process
Any service outlet that exceeds EPA’s lead action level of 15 ppb will be immediately shut down or removed from service. The outlet identified will have the aerator/screen removed for cleaning and replaced if necessary. Once this process is complete, the area will be scheduled for a second round of testing.
