American Education Week—November 13-17, 2017—will present all Americans with a wonderful opportunity to celebrate public education and honor individuals who are making a difference in ensuring that every child receives a quality education.

SCHOOL SPOTLIGHT: SPRING CITY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Spring City Elementary School recently earned a Title I Distinguished School High Achievement status for the 2016-2017 school year. Kim Bast, Director of Curriculum and Instruction, said, "It is evident each time I'm in the building that there is a strong commitment to student growth and achievement and we are thankful for the work of each individual at Spring City."

A "High Achievement" Title I Distinguished School is determined by the following criteria:
  • Highest 5% Title I schools based on aggregate Mathematics/Reading proficiency for PSSA
  • Test participation in Mathematics and Reading PSSA
  • Graduation Rate
  • Closing the Achievement Gap in Mathematics and Reading PSSA
  • Closing the Achievement Gap in Mathematics and Reading PSSA for Historically Underperforming Students
  • Not a Priority School or Focus School

Report cards and conferences provide an excellent opportunity to communicate with parents and guardians regarding student achievement and growth. Please visit your school's website for additional Parent/Teacher Conference information.

NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLARSHIP SEMIFINALISTS

The Spring-Ford Area School District is proud to announce that three Spring-Ford Area High School students have been recognized as National Merit Scholarship Program semifinalists. Congratulations to John T. Kelly, Nicholas D. Moore, and Yash B. Shah.

 

The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships that began in 1955. High school students enter the National Merit Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test — which serves as a screen of approximately 1.6 million entrants each year—and by meeting published program entry and participation requirements.

 

OAKS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL: 50TH ANNIVERSARY

Join friends and family at Oaks Elementary School to celebrate their 50th Anniversary on Sunday, November 5! Open House will be from 1-4 pm, this event is FREE and OPEN TO THE COMMUNITY!

 

  • Enjoy a walk down memory lane with memorabilia from every decade.
  • Past students can share pictures from their time at Oaks, and have fun in a before/after Photo Booth!

SFAHS FALL PLAY: A CHRISTMAS CAROL

Your whole family will be in for a treat with this special adaptation of A Christmas Carol! Deck the halls as the holiday spirit travels beyond the footlights, right into your very own heart.

 

Join us for an evening performance Friday night, November 17th. OR make an afternoon of it and have Snacks with Santa at 2pm prior to the Saturday matinee on November 18th, which begins at 4pm! This special event is FREE with your advance ticket purchase! Click here to purchase tickets online.

FALL ATHLETIC TEAM UPDATE

Congratulations to Spring-Ford Area High School student athletes for a successful fall season:

  • Congratulations to Senior Ben Pochet, who claimed the District One Class AAA Boys Golf championship on October 11 – his second straight season
  • Congratulations to the Girls' Tennis Team for winning the PAC Team Title
  • Congratulations to the Boys' Golf Team for winning the PAC Team Title, the first time since 2012 – Josh Brauer, Drew Fuhrman, Axel Kalbach, Ben Pochet, Jack Straub, Steven Stumpo, Luke Watson, George Wicks
  • Congratulations to the Girls' Volleyball Team for advancing to District play
  • Congratulations to the Girls' Soccer Team for advancing to District play.

 

Also, congratulations to the Golden Ram Marching Band! They competed in the Bands of America Regional at the University of Delaware. This is the National Circuit Show they attend once a year, with 39 bands participating this year.
