BOARD NOTES: September 2019 Board Presentation: Leukemia and Lymphoma Sarah Thurber from The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society recognized the district's outstanding support in the 2019 Pennies for Patients Campaign. The district, through its efforts at the 7th Grade Center, the 9th Grade Center, and the 10-12 Grade Center, contributed a total of $14,896.05.

Learn how Spring-Ford is addressing topics such as the vaping epidemic, school start times, student safety, and more. The gathering will take place on Thursday, October 24, 2019 at 7 p.m. in the Spring-Ford Area High School auditorium. All parents, faculty/staff, and community members are welcomed and encouraged to attend.
The Town Hall meeting will include brief presentations from the Superintendent, Director of Curriculum, and Spring-Ford School Police Department. The intent of this gathering is for the district to share a current State of the District, discuss student safety, school start times, and take feedback from the Spring-Ford community. Don't Miss a Meeting! The Spring-Ford Board of School Directors utilizes a committee structure to efficiently accomplish their work. The standing committees - including Property, Policy, Extracurricular, Finance, Curriculum and Technology, Personnel, and Community Relations - meet on a regular schedule to complete due diligence. These meetings are all open to the public and typically held at the District Office (unless otherwise noted). The committee then reports information and recommendations to the full board.
The work done at the Committee level is then shared during a regularly scheduled Work Session and/or School Board meeting, held in the Spring-Ford Area High School Cafeteria (unless otherwise noted).
SCHOOL BOARD SPOTLIGHT Meet the Spring-Ford Board of School Directors The Spring-Ford Board of School Directors generously contributes their time and talents toward the advancement of public education from kindergarten through grade 12 for the Spring-Ford Area School District. As elected officials, school board members answer to the electorate and to the Pennsylvania Department of Education, establish policies that provide the framework for our public schools and represent their local communities, attend sometimes lengthy and challenging meetings, conferences and institutes for public education. Spring-Ford's nine school directors assess the district's needs to develop an educational program that is consistent with the district's mission and vision. These members are:
September Committee Updates Curriculum and Technology Committee Update: the Curriculum and Technology Committee met on Wednesday, September 11, 2019 at the District Office. Dr. Kelly Murray, Director of Curriculum and Instruction, updated the committee on various Back-to-School activities such as Back to Spring-Ford Night, New Teacher Induction, and August Inservice Days. She also provided a Modernizing Learning/Spring-Ford Learning update. Mr. Robert Catalano, Director of Technology, updated the committee on ongoing projects including Modernizing Learning/Spring-Ford Learning laptop deployment, the new phone system, and the Summer Refresh project.
Finance Committee Update: the Finance Committee met on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at the District Office. Mr. James Fink, CFO, provided an update on the closing of the 2018-2019 fiscal year, as well as a Food Service Update. The Business Office is preparing for the annual audit, which will take place in October. In addition, the Committee discussed using surplus funds to provide supplemental monies to teachers for additional classroom supplies. The Board then approved the transfer of $66,500.00 from the Unassigned Fund Balance to the General Fund to be used for additional approved classroom supplies at the Board Meeting on September 23, 2019.
Property Committee Update: the Property Committee met on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at the District Office. Mr. Robert Hunter, Director of Planning, Operations and Facilities, provided an update on the High School Expansion project, the Ram Stadium Bathroom Project, and a District-Wide Facilities Condition Assessment. The committee also discussed the new business of renovating an existing section of Limerick Elementary School's play area to support more children, as well as adding new cleaning equipment - a "Ride On Scrubber" - at the High School. The current scrubber will be phased out. Chief David Boyer, Coordinator of Safety, Security and Emergency Preparedness and Chief of School Police, provided an update specific to safety and security projects, initiatives, and trainings.
Policy Committee Update: the Policy Committee met on Monday, September 9, 2019 at the District Office. Board Members continued their review of current policies related to school safety. School District Administration will return with recommendations at upcoming committee meetings.
Extracurricular Committee Update: the Extracurricular Committee met on Monday, September 9, 2019 at the District Office. Presentations were made by Mr. Seth Jones on behalf of the Marching Band, Mrs. Jen Reagan on behalf of SFAHS Ramoirs, and Mr. Mickey McDaniel on behalf of the Athletic Department.
