SPRING-FORD BOARD NOTES

Work Session and Board Meeting Recap

Work Session: October 16, 2017

  • The Board approved a resolution for the preliminary/final land development plan with Limerick Township in regards to the High School Expansion Project.
  • Mark Moyer and Karen Bollinger along with Oaks Elementary students gave a presentation on the Art Program at Oaks.
  • Dr. Roche provided an update on the start of the 2017-2018 school year.

Board Meeting: October 23, 2017

  • Beverly McNutt and the McNutt Family, owners of Rita's Water Ice, presented Dan Currie on behalf of the district with their donation of $4,238.68 from funds raised during Ice for Autism fundraiser. Funds donated are used to benefit the Spring-Ford Area School District's Autism Program.
  • Dr. Colyer introduced and presented the following students with certificates in recognition of being named as "Semi-Finalists" in the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program. These students were among the 16,000 highest performers (out of the more than 1.5 million) on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. They have an opportunity to continue on to advance to Finalist status and potentially receive a monetary scholarship. Congratulation to John T. Kelly, Nicholas D. Moore and Yash B. Shah!
  • Dr. Colyer introduced and presented the following students with certificates in recognition of being named as "Commended Students" in the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program. These students were among the 34,000 high performers who scored in the commended range (out of the more than 1.6 million) on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Congratulations to Pooja Chawla, Katrina A. Hernandez, Jake B. Pajovich, Benjamin J. Pochet, Amal Tyagi, Abigail Varughese and Emily J. Wen!
  • Dr. Goodin, Mrs. Bast, Dr. Nugent and Dr. Weidenbaugh presented an overview of the 2016-2017 District Assessment results.

Spring-Ford Spotlight: Ice for Autism Fundraiser

SPRING-FORD SPOTLIGHT: The McNutt Family was recognized at the October 23 School Board Meeting for their ongoing support of the district's Special Needs and Autistic Programs.

The McNutt's have held fundraisers at their Rita's Italian Ice stores for the past 10 years, generating nearly $50,000 for the program. The Ice for Autism fundraiser held each spring at Rita's Ice - Royersford, PA and Rita's Italian of Collegeville features "Celebrity Scoopers" – teachers, principals, administrators and school board members – who serve up cool treats to customers.

The family donates 20% of each day's sales to the Spring-Ford Educational Foundation to support students in the Special Needs and Autistic Programs.
