Special Board Meeting

The Spring-Ford Area School District Board of Directors will hold a Special Meeting on Monday, July 20, 2020 at 7:30 p.m. The meeting will be available to the public via Zoom or in-person in the Spring-Ford Area High School Cafeteria. Dr. David Goodin, Superintendent, will provide the final 2020-2021 Reopening Plan for Green, Yellow, and Red phases.  

Presentation: First Look - Phased Reopening Options

Dr. Goodin provided a "first look" on three possible scenarios for reopening the 2020-2021 school year. He introduced the Chairperson(s) assigned to head up each of the three committees that continues to work on plans for reopening under Green, Yellow and Red Phases. Each chairperson provided general information on what reopening might look like under those scenarios.

  • Dr. Kelly Murray provided an update from the Full School Closure Committee – All Students Online (Red Phase)
  • Dr. Heidi Rochlin provided an update from the Hybrid Model Committee – Part in School and Part Online (Yellow Phase)
  • Mr. Robert Hunter and Chief David Boyer provided an update from the Open Face to Face School Committee - All Students Return to School Green Phase)

Each phase is based on Pennsylvania Department of Education requirements and/or guidelines, as well as the state mandated COVID-19 phase.

TAKE NOTE: COMMITTEE UPDATES

Policy Meeting

The Policy Committee met on June 9, 2020 at 6:30 p.m. via Zoom. Mr. Robert Rizzo, Assistant Superintendent, led a discussion regarding a process to update nearly 120 policies. The following policy appeared on the agenda as a first reading:

  • Policy #816 - OPERATIONS: Use of Audio and Video Monitoring Equipment

The following policies were approved:

  • Policy #128– PROGRAMS: Equity, Diversity and Inclusion
  • Policy #204 – PUPILS: Attendance

 

Curriculum and Technology Committee Meeting

The Curriculum and Technology Committee met on June 9, 2020 at 7 p.m. on Zoom. Dr. Kelly Murray, Director of Curriculum and Instruction, shared information regarding resources posted on the district website pertaining to Summer Assignments for high school students, and Summer Resources for students in grades K-8. The Fall Planning Sub-Committees provide a progress update.

 

Mr. Robert Catalano, Director of Technology, provided a Technology Equipment Refresh update. Mr. Catalano requested approval of no more than $200,000 to complete the technology refresh for the upcoming school year. Funding will come from Capital Reserve and be repaid from the Technology Operating Budget. Modernizing Learning student devices have been received and Mr. Catalano is working on a plan to deploy devices to all students in grades 9-12 this summer. The Finance Committee and Property Committee meetings were cancelled this month. The Community Relations Meeting was not held due to lack of School Board quorum.
