October 2020 MESSAGE FROM DR. CARBOY Quote by: Tanseem Hameed Photo by: Luca Carboy Dear RES Families,
I miss you all! I hope that you are all doing well and finding ways to make the very best of our current situation. I do know that as parents we all have to make a difficult decision regarding the re-opening of our school on November 12, 2020. Surveys were sent out this past Wednesday and parents of elementary students have three options: in person, cyber, or virtual for the second marking period. Please review the district's K-6 re-opening plan in full prior to making your decision (The Re-Opening Plan can be found on our district webpage). As elementary principal's we are also working on a video to help answer some of the questions you may and/or hope to have answered prior to taking the survey and making and informed decision. Stay tuned! Be sure to complete the survey no later than Thursday, October 8, 2020. The information we collect from families will allow us to plan and prepare for all the options presented. A blank survey will result in an In Person schedule.
No matter what you decide, please find comfort in knowing that we will work together to make this a positive experience for your child during this difficult time. Each family situation is unique and all of you will make the right decision for your own family and what you see as the best option. I too will be making a decision for my own son who also attends Spring-Ford HS and I sympathize with all of you as we navigate through this new way of learning and making the best choice for your child.
I appreciate all of you as we continue to support our children. We are here for all of you!

Students, Parents, and Families: We are so excited to continue the tradition of Good Choice Team at RES! Each week a student in grades 1 - 4 who is being Respectful, Responsible and Safe will be chosen as the winner for their homeroom. Each teacher will pick one student who has been showing these very important qualities. This student will have his/her name shared on the MONDAY morning announcements and then he/she will get to choose the fun activity that the class does on Good Choice Friday. If you are chosen you will also be sent a special "Caught in the Web of Learning" Virtual Certificate from your teacher. Let's all make good choices and stay on the Good Choice Team!
Robyn Michael, School Counselor RES
Next week I will begin counseling lessons in your child's classroom. This will occur on a bi-weekly basis so that I can virtually visit every classroom in the school within a two-week period. Please be on the look-out for Monday morning announcements I will share which grades will have a lesson that week as well as what we will be covering.
Some of the very important themes we will work on during the month of October will be:
* Bucket Filling (how do we build each other up with our words) * Coping with Stress and Change * Physical Movement: how does it help us cope
I'm so excited to be back with the students, as working with the them is the best part of school counseling! Thank you for all you are doing to support our students at home as we continue to stay Spring-Ford Strong!
