STS and SFASD Guest Teacher Program
Substitute Teacher Service (STS) is proud to offer the Guest Teacher Program at Spring-Ford. This program allows those who have a four-year degree to take an online training program that would prepare them for teaching in the classroom as a day to day substitute teacher.

This program is the first of its kind in Pennsylvania and is exclusive to STS. The program will enhance the abilities of guest teachers to assure the education and well-being of the children is our top priority.

As a substitute teacher, you will be responsible for carrying out the lesson plans of the regularly appointed teacher for whom you would be substituting.  Your goal will be to adhere to the learning environment that would exist if the regular teacher were in the classroom.

School Board Reorganization Meeting
The next scheduled meeting will be Monday, December 6, 2021 at 7:30 p.m. for the annual Reorganization Meeting. All School Boards in Pennsylvania reorganize during the first week of December each year to:

  • elect a president and vice president
  • adopt a meeting calendar for the following year
  • appoint committees and other board positions
  • swear in newly elected members (during election years or as needed)

Participation at the Reorganization Meeting shall be virtual via Zoom or YouTube, and in-person. In-person attendees must wear masks at all times. As always, Board Meetings shall be recorded to allow those members of the public that cannot participate to review at a later time.

Starting in January 2022, Board Meeting Reminders will be sent in Weekly Updates.

Are You Ready for Winter Weather?
Winter weather is around the corner, do you know where to find school closure information? Click here to watch an informative Spring-Ford Spotlight Video as we review the quickest ways to get up-to-date information on delays and closures.

This year (2021-2022) Spring-Ford Area School District built one Emergency Day into the calendar and planned to utilize Virtual or Flexible Instruction Days (FID) in case of an emergency or snow closure. The district used the Emergency Day on September 2, 2021 following district-wide flooding and power outages. Therefore, April 13, 2022 will change to an In-Person school day.

A Virtual Day or FID will be used in place of a snow day or other unplanned school closure and eliminate the need for a make-up day because students perform classwork at home. On a weather related Virtual Day, students will complete learning assignments provided by the teacher at home through Canvas. Click here to learn more about what to expect on a weather related Virtual Day.

Updated Health and Safety Plan Reminder
On Monday, November 15, 2021 the Board of School Directors authorized an amendment to the 2021-2022 Health and Safety Plan (HSP) effective January 17, 2022 to align with recommendations of the Montgomery County Department of Health (MCOPH), the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the Pennsylvania Department of Health (PDoH) and recommends that students and staff, Kindergarten through 12th grade, wear appropriate face coverings while indoors during school activities. This amendment does not change mask requirements on buses as the result of the mandated order of the CDC.

If the current state-wide masking order should be lifted at any point before January 17, 2022, Spring-Ford will resort to the current Health and Safety Plan.

Currently, masks are mandatory for staff when Spring-Ford’s Level of Community Transmission is “High.”  Only medical exemptions with a medical signature will be honored. Spring-Ford’s Level of Community Transmission can be found on the COVID Dashboard, and will be included each week in Weekly Updates.

COVID-19 Vaccine Information
On Tuesday, November 2, 2021 the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) approved the pediatric Pfizer vaccine for children ages 5 through 11 and confirmed that vaccine providers are ready to administer shots as soon as possible. With parental consent, children ages 5 through 11 may register to receive the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine. The Department of Health will continue working with providers across the state to help ensure that the vaccine is available in every community. Parents can find the nearest COVID-19 vaccine provider at Vaccines.gov including county sites, local pharmacies, and medical providers.

Spring-Ford will continue to send vaccine and testing information through Weekly Updates, including links to register for first and second dose appointments and booster appointments in our area. At this time, local pharmacies are not offering community clinics in Spring-Ford schools/buildings.
