Today is Teacher Appreciation Day!
Today we celebrate the all-stars of 2020-2021, our teachers! As part of Teacher Appreciation Week, the celebration takes place on the Tuesday of the first full week in May each year. This year’s theme is #ThankATeacher. In a year with so many changes – from virtual, to in-person, or a mix of both – their efforts have provided a much-needed sense of community and connection for students. Click here to download a Certificate of Appreciation to send to your child’s teacher recognition of their extraordinary efforts to inspire, educate and motivate.

Last year, students recorded messages for their teachers to celebrate Teacher Appreciation Day. A year later, their messages are just as relevant. Thank you - Spring-Ford teachers - for your ability to adapt the curriculum to the online environment. Thank you for making learning exciting no matter where we are. Thank you for keeping kids safe. Thank you for being there for your students! Click here to watch the 2020 video.

Principal Update: 2021-2022 School Year
Next school year, the 5-8 house system will move to a 2-year rotation from the current 4-year rotation. Currently, the school counselors are either elementary covering grades 5 and 6, or secondary covering grades 7 and 8. Given the vast difference between the 5th and 8th grade experience, the plan is to align the house principals and school counselors in a 2-year rotation. Looking forward the house structure will be:

Vaccine Updates
The Food and Drug Administration recently announced their plan to authorize the use of the coronavirus vaccine in children 12 to 15 years old, in addition to children ages 16 and up. Per the CDC and the Montgomery County Office of Public Health (MCOPH), if a fully vaccinated student is identified as a close contact in school, the student will not be required to do the 10-day quarantine. While quarantine will not be required, notification to the parents/ guardians about exposure will continue. As always, it is important to watch for symptoms and proceed with testing if symptoms arise.

The CDC and the MCOPH define that a person can only be considered fully vaccinated 14-days following the administration of the second dose in a two-dose series vaccine (Pfizer or Moderna), or 14-days following the administration of the single dose series vaccine (Johnson & Johnson). If your child is identified as a close contact prior to when they would be considered a fully vaccinated individual, they would still require the 10-day quarantine.

Once your child has completed a COVID -19 vaccine series, you are welcome to send a copy of the documentation to the School Nurse. Please share this documentation only after your student is fully immunized, meaning it would be after the second dose has been administered of a two-dose series vaccine or after the single dose series vaccine. More information will be sent from your School Nurse.

We will continue including Vaccination Site information in Weekly Update emails as details become available.

Soles4Souls Shoe Drive
The entire Spring-Ford community is invited to join the 5/6/7 Grade Center Shoe Donation Drive! Spring-Ford students and families can donate new/gently used shoes in-person on May 15 from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.! Students who attend 5/6/7 GC can bring shoes to school to drop off in our “shoe bins" from May 3 through May 14.

Have a stray shoe? Bring it with you! Soles4Souls will take singles, too!

About Soles 4 Shoes: Most of us can’t fathom what it would be like to lack something as basic as a pair of shoes, but for millions of people around the world, that’s an everyday reality. For countless more, it’s a sudden and devastating consequence of a natural disaster. When someone doesn’t have shoes, it’s not just their feet that suffer. Without shoes, people are vulnerable to scrapes, cuts, bacteria and parasites that can lead to infection and other serious illnesses. Kids without shoes often can’t attend school and adults can’t work. At Soles4Souls, they turn unwanted shoes into opportunity, by keeping them from going to waste and putting them to good use – providing relief, creating jobs and empowering people to break the cycle of poverty.
