Speaker Series: QPR Workshops
The Spring-Ford Area School District, along with the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services, is hosting a FREE QPR training for the Community. This is in IN-PERSON workshop.

Just as people trained in CPR and the Heimlich Maneuver help save thousands of lives each year, people trained in QPR learn how to recognize the warning signs of suicide crisis and how to question, persuade, and refer someone for help. Our goal is to share this information and training with our parents, guardians, and the community to better prepare everyone in the event they encounter someone in need. QPR is about saving lives and providing support for one another. QPR stands for Question, Persuade, Refer: 3 simple steps that anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide. Gatekeeper Training prepares attendees to:

  • Recognize the warning signs of suicide
  • Ask someone about suicidal thoughts
  • Offer and connect to help

This event is free and open to the community, but space is limited!

Fall Play: Save the Date for Cinderella
Tickets for the fall production of Cinderella will be on sale beginning November 1, 2021. There will be two shows, Friday, November 12th at 7 PM and Saturday, November 13th at noon. Tickets are $5 for students and $8 for adults.

About the show: All the ingredients that have made the story a perennial favorite are here: dirty, ragged, pitiful, but optimistic and loving Cinderella; her cruel stepmother and selfish stepsisters; the ball and the handsome prince looking for a bride; the fairy godmother; the glass slipper and the search for the foot that fits it; and the happily-ever-after ending. Sally Netzel's sense of humor and her ability to develop captivating characters and invent charming scenes make this dramatization outstanding. Cinderella is a real person, with the hopes and petulance and frustration and love that modern young people experience when their fantasies seem to be impossible dreams.

STS and SFASD Guest Teacher Program
Substitute Teacher Service (STS) is proud to offer the Guest Teacher Program at Spring-Ford. This program allows those who have a four-year degree to take an online training program that would prepare them for teaching in the classroom as a day to day substitute teacher.

This program is the first of its kind in Pennsylvania and is exclusive to STS. The program will enhance the abilities of guest teachers to assure the education and well-being of the children is our top priority.

As a substitute teacher, you will be responsible for carrying out the lesson plans of the regularly appointed teacher for whom you would be substituting.  Your goal will be to adhere to the learning environment that would exist if the regular teacher were in the classroom.

Student Spotlight: Navya Murahari
SFAHS graduate, Navya Murahari, earned a perfect score on a college-level Advanced Placement® (AP®) Exam in spring 2021! Navya was one of only 375 students in the world to earn every point possible on the AP Research Exam.

“We are extremely proud of Navya and very excited to see her commitment to her research result in this incredible accomplishment. Navya challenged herself with a complex research topic, and her perseverance allowed her to overcome every obstacle she faced throughout the research process," said Jaclyn Ritter and Julie Korchowsky, AP® teachers.

The Advanced Placement Program is committed to ensuring that students have access to the opportunities they have earned. Students who succeed in AP are not only more likely to succeed in college, but have the chance to save a significant amount of time and money by earning college credit or placement.

Colleges and universities around the world received AP scores for college credit, advanced placement, and/or consideration in the admission process. To learn more about AP, please visit exploreap.org. Congrats, Navya!

I am so grateful for his compassion and gentle way in helping her navigate school in Covid and guiding her in her with great wisdom in her academic choices. There is a depth of love he has for his students and his job that is something that needs to be recognized publicly. • Brad M., Mr. Murless has been one of the greatest blessings to my daughter this year. He has been there for her as she's gone to him to help her navigate her course load and daily stresses of teenage life. I am incredibly grateful for his compassion, insight, and check-ins with her and myself. When I think of a high school guidance counselor for my kids I would've never imagined that they would be so supportive and involved in their students personal growth both academically and social emotional. He's a true gift and I respect him greatly. It's so wonderful to know the guidance counselors at Spring-Ford are top notch not just in guiding our kids in academics but walking with them daily through highs and lows. Back in the day of Dancin on Air etc. From Megan  K.
  • Mr. Iannelli, you are one of the greatest teachers. He teaches from the heart to the heart. I have always appreciated  his dedication to teaching honors algebra 2 and computer science 1 and 2. Thank you so much for being a great joyful light to these kids and us parents! From Megan  K.
  • Mr. Leppold, many thanks for Mr. Leppold... I can’t say enough about him. He is wildly passionate about Earth Science, the Grand Canyon, snd NASA. This summer my daughters and I made a trip out to the West Coast to visit the Grand Canyon. Last year he heard that we were going to be going out West and he asked us to reach out to him so that he could give us some notes and detailed specifics of places to go in the Grand Canyon. So when it was time for our trip we reached out and he not only gave us detailed maps and great suggestions of gorgeous sites to see he also continued to answer our questions while we were out there. He has been such an encouragement to my daughter Rachelle in her love for earth science. We have laughed so much in our communications with him because he’s such a wealth of unending knowledge and always learning, growing, and bringing his students along for great adventure. From Megan K.
  • Dr. Siggins, many thanks for Dr. Siggins, he is hands down the best principal and advocate for students, teachers, and parents. I so appreciated his transparency and honesty when I was trying to decide what math to  put my daughter in. He’s very practical and communicates the long-term effects if we as parents try to push our kids to hard to soon. He was a wonderful resource for me and I was trying to make some decisions that would determine a course my daughter would go on when it came to success in academics. In addition to him being able to help me see how I need to shift my focus. Also when it was my daughters birthday I asked him if he would send her an email to encourage her. He went above and   Beyond and called her on the phone for 20 minutes he encouraged her and they laughed so much. He is someone I admire and would like to honor. From Megan K.
