Free Breakfast Program Launching October 1
On September 9th, Governor Wolf announced a universal free school breakfast program for the 2022-2023 school year. Starting on October 1, all students will be eligible for a free breakfast at school. Spring-Ford offers a variety of breakfast items daily including fruits, sugar free juice selection, cereal, and daily menu items like french toast sticks, waffles with syrup, egg and cheese sandwiches, and more.

This new program will not affect school lunches. Free and reduced lunch status will continue to depend on individual family eligibility.

Families who qualify are encouraged to participate in the Free or Reduced Priced Meals program to help offset the cost of daily lunch. Be sure to apply for the financial support that your family may be eligible to receive. Free and Reduced applications are due no later than October 12, 2022.

Student Spotlight: National Merit Program Semifinalists
The Spring-Ford Area School District is proud to announce that four Spring-Ford Area High School students have been recognized as National Merit Scholarship Program Semifinalists!

Congratulations to Vania Mokonchu, Sunidhi H. Srinivas, Samyan S. Nakkella, and Arnav S. Pallem!

In early September, about 16,000 students, or approximately one-third of the 50,000 high scorers, are notified that they have qualified as Semifinalists. Semifinalists are designated on a state-representational basis to ensure that academically talented young people from all parts of the United States are included in this talent pool. They are the highest-scoring entrants in each state.

As well, the following ten students were named as Commended Students in the 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program. This means that these students were among the 34,000 high performers who scored in the commended student range out of more than 1.5 million students taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) test last October. They are therefore being recognized for their “outstanding performance on the qualifying test used for program entry.”

Congratulations to Sahil Desai, Maheedhar Rajula, Andrew Eross, Nathaniel Roache, Ashley Gutshall, Akshaya Shyamsundar Rekha, Tyler Holland, Santosh Sureshkumar, Aditi Mangal, and Albany Viet!

The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships that began in 1955. High school students enter the National Merit Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). To be considered for a National Merit Scholarship, Semifinalists must advance to Finalist standing in the competition by meeting high academic standards and all other requirements explained in the information provided to each Semifinalist.
