We would like to welcome Mr. Gavin Lawler to the 11th Grade House!

Welcome Mr. Gavin Lawler
In 2006, I graduated from Penn State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education and Biology. My first assignment was teaching 10th-grade biology at William Penn School District before accepting a position at Collegium Charter School where, for the next six years, I taught Biology, Life, Environmental, and Earth and Space science to students in grades 8-12. I also designed and implemented new curricula and electives, mentored at-risk students, and acted as student council advisor.

After earning my Masters in Educational Leadership and principal certification from Immaculata University in 2012, I became the new elementary school assistant principal at Collegium. Four years later, I became the building principal. After three years as principal, I decided to return to my secondary roots and was hired as the assistant principal at Pottstown High School where I have worked for the past four years. Last summer, I was asked to lead the building as interim principal to start the current school year.

I am thrilled to be joining Spring-Ford Area High School as the new 11th-grade house principal. I look forward to working closely with students, staff, and families to support academic achievement, engage students in lifelong learning, and promote positive behavior and growth.

From the Nurse’s Office

  • Vision Screenings for students in grades 10-12 will be performed on December 19th, 20th, and 21st during Phys. Ed classes. Students should be sure to wear their glasses or contacts on those days.
  • Cold and flu season is here! Students are reminded that they may bring their own cough drops to school as long as they do not share them with other students (who may have allergies to the ingredients).
  • Prescription or over-the-counter medication, including Ibuprofen or Tylenol, is NOT permitted to be carried at school by a student in their backpack or belongings. All medication must be administered in the nurse's office during school hours and requires a prescriber's order.   It is considered a policy violation to carry any medication at school other than an inhaler, Epi-Pen, or Insulin. Please remind your student to leave medications at home and to see the nurse if not feeling well at school.

The SFASD medication policy can be found on the school website and in the student handbook.

FALL PLAY
Spring-Ford Area High School theatre presents The Velveteen Rabbit.

The Velveteen Rabbit is an emotional journey through time, as told through the eyes of a young man looking back on his childhood. By reliving the relationship between his 4-year-old self and his favorite toy, the velveteen rabbit, he rediscovers the true meaning of friendship. Central to the story is, of course, the velveteen rabbit, who is introduced to the idea of becoming real by the old rocking horse. The play explores the rewards of loyalty, the poignancy of loss, and the wonderful, surprising powers of love.

There are two evening performances, Friday, November 4th at 7PM and Saturday, November 5th at 7 PM.  The Saturday matinee is a special Relaxed Performance. The show is one hour in length with no intermission.

November 5 Relaxed Performance: A “relaxed” performance is a specially adjusted sensory-friendly show designed to create a theatre experience for individuals with a wide range of sensory, learning, and communication differences - and, of course, their family and friends! Some patrons who may benefit from a relaxed experience, in addition to those on the autism spectrum, include individuals with neurological and communication differences such as ADHD, social anxiety, OCD, and agoraphobia, as well as families with small children.

To aid in the inclusion of all patrons at this performance, special adjustments are made to the show, such as the reduction of startling sound or lighting effects, freedom to vocalize and leave seats during the performance as needed, and freedom to use personal electronic devices for communication or sensory reasons (although we do ask that while in the theater, these electronics be on “mute” or very low volume). The SFAHS Company will also offer the chance to borrow noise canceling headphones and a variety of stress sensory toys from our Sensory Library prior to and during the show. There will also be a quiet area in the lobby for patrons who need a break during the performance. SFAHS will also provide pre-show preparation materials to help attendees anticipate the experience of visiting the SFAHS Theatre and seeing live theater.

The single most important accommodation, however, is the establishment of a “shush-free zone,” in which patrons are free to experience the show in whatever way is most comfortable. All modes of expression are not only accepted, but expected and celebrated. Everyone in attendance, as well as the actors and crew, is aware of the relaxed  nature of the performance, with the aim of creating an environment that is inclusive and judgment-free. By combining this understanding with the accommodations described above, our hope is that all patrons and their families, especially those who have been reluctant to visit the theater, will feel welcomed and included.

From the Desks of Dr. Colyer and Dr. Di Pietro-Edwards: No school on October 5th!

Ticket Spicket Information
If you plan on purchasing tickets for any regular season home games this year, we have switched to Ticket Spicket for on-line sales. We will not accept cash or sell paper tickets at the gate this year, so you will need to download the free Ticket Spicket app to purchase tickets. Below are some resources to help you navigate this new platform. Tickets are still $5, but there is a convenience fee which results in an individual ticket costing $5.75. Also the passes are only good for the regular season games, not post-season play.
